Public Health, Policy & Planning
Public Health, Policy & Planning (PHPP) protects and promotes the health of San Mateo County residents through disease prevention, health services, data and community partnerships. The division responds to disease outbreaks, provides medical outreach services, compiles and analyzes data related to public health and matters of health equity, and provides information to the public, community leaders and stakeholders.
The division manages communicable disease surveillance, reporting and response; operates the public health laboratory; and gathers and analyzes epidemiological data. PHPP also oversees animal control and licensing, operates street and field medicine teams for providing care to the homeless and migrant workers. Through mobile health clinics, the division brings medical care into the community. It also promotes community partnerships and provides research, technical assistance and advocacy support.
