Family Health Services
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is the sudden unexplained death of an infant under one year of age.
The SIDS Program focuses on educating families and childcare providers about SIDS and what can be done to reduce the risk of SIDS, such as placing babies on their back to sleep.
The San Mateo County SIDS Program provides health education, resources and grief counseling for families.
The goals of the program are to:
Help reduce the emotional suffering caused by SIDS for families and caregivers Improve the knowledge and skills of people who interact with SIDS families Increase public awareness and knowledge of SIDS Promote infant care practices to reduce the risk of SIDS Services Provide SIDS health education and resources Provide supportive services and bereavement support to families and caregivers Promote public awareness and education about SIDS Provide training and consultation about SIDS Who is Eligible Anyone in San Mateo County who may benefit from SIDS bereavement support services and SIDS risk reduction education.
