Emergency Medical Services
The San Mateo County Medical Reserve Corps (SMC MRC) is a partnership between San Mateo County and local communities that strengthens medical and public-health preparedness, response and recovery.
The SMC MRC is composed of trained volunteers who support the County’s public-health and healthcare systems during emergencies and disasters. Members contribute experience in medicine, nursing, public health, project management, administration, logistics, communications and many other fields. Volunteers from all professional and community backgrounds are encouraged to join.
The mission of the San Mateo County Medical Reserve Corps is to work collaboratively to protect and promote the health of the public during emergencies and disasters.
In addition to emergency response, SMC MRC volunteers support community preparedness and public-health activities throughout the year. Opportunities may include:
Through training and exercises, members prepare to assist during large-scale disasters, public-health emergencies, hospital surges, shelter operations and other incidents requiring medical or health support.
The SMC MRC welcomes volunteers with both medical and nonmedical backgrounds. Members receive training to help them serve safely and effectively within an organized emergency-response structure.
