Behavioral Health & Recovery Services
The BHRS Clinical Internship Program provides doctoral- and master’s-level trainees with meaningful clinical training experiences within a diverse public behavioral health system. Trainees have the opportunity to develop and strengthen their clinical skills while working with individuals and families presenting with a range of behavioral health needs, including complex and co-occurring concerns, and to gain experience serving diverse and often underserved populations.
In addition to hands-on clinical experience, trainees have access to regular didactic seminars designed to support continued professional development and build the knowledge, competencies, and practical skills necessary to provide effective, culturally responsive, and high-quality services to the individuals and communities we serve.
Cultural Stipends are available for those who are able to help provide services to underserved populations within our system of Older Adult, Adult, and Youth Services. Each stipend is up to $7,000 for a student who works 24 hours or more in their placement. Stipends will be pro-rated if the student works between 20-24 hours per week. Students who work less than 20 hours per week at their placement do not qualify for the stipend. Recipients of the stipend are required to participate in Health Equity Initiative (HEI) meetings and work on an HEI project for a total of 2 hours per week, as negotiated between the trainee/intern and the HEI co-chair.
Some opportunities are with our Regional Clinics, which serve adults and youth within a geographic area. Other opportunities are with units that serve specialized populations of older adults, adults and youth throughout the County. Along with the required supervision hours, trainees have weekly didactic seminars and are included in clinical case consultations and in-service trainings.
