Overview

Latino/a/x Collaborative

Hosted by The Office of Diversity and Equity

We strive to eliminate stigma, oppression, racism and poverty

The Latino/a/x Collaborative promotes holistic practices designed to build safe, strong, resilient families in San Mateo County. We work to increase access to stigma-free services and treatment involving mind, spirit and body to all San Mateo County residents, regardless of insurance eligibility. We believe that services that integrate Latino/a/x heritage, culture, spirituality and family values will nurture and strengthen the health of Latino/a/x individuals and families.

The Latino/a/x Collaborative is funded by the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA).

Why the name change?

Hola Communidad, we have big news! As one of the Health Equity Initiatives (HEI) within San Mateo County Behavioral Health & Recovery Services (BHRS) Office of Diversity and Equity (ODE), the Latino Collaborative is now the Latino/a/x Collaborative.

Names are more than just names. Names reflect what we stand for and who we are. Therefore, it is with great orgullo (pride) that our members and leadership share this announcement. This re-brand acknowledges and embraces the diverse gender identities within our Latinx community, promoting inclusivity and respect for all individuals. Significantly, this shift reflects a commitment to recognizing and valuing the multifaced experience and expression of gender among and within Latinx identified individuals Latin American and Hispanic people.

Our Mission and Vision

To give a voice to the Latino/a/x community by working together to support mind- body-soul and healthcare practices that are culturally appropriate.

  • Create stronger, safer and more resilient families through holistic practices
  • Promote a stigma-free environment
  • To provide fair access to health and social services, independently of health insurance coverage
  • Appreciate and respect traditional practices
  • Recognize and incorporate Latino/a/x history, culture and language into Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS)

With the support of the Mental Health Services Act, the Latino/a/x Collaborative was created in 2008. Since then, members of the Collaborative have been committed to give voice to the Latino/a/x Community through creative, innovative and collaborative efforts that promote integrated, culturally congruent holistic health. See the Latino/a/x Collaborative Brochure: English Brochure, Spanish Brochure for more information.
