Substance Use Treatment Services

If you or a loved one is dealing with drug addiction, alcoholism, prescription drugs or chemical dependency, seeking help is the first step in recovery. As the mental health and substance use plan for Medi-Cal beneficiaries residing in San Mateo County, Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) offers free consultation, assessment, linkages, and referrals to a network of contracted community-based substance use treatment providers throughout the County.  Call our Access Call Center for assistance at 1 (800) 686-0101, TTY (for hearing impaired): dial 711.

Substance use treatment services include: detoxification services, outpatient, residential, and medication assisted treatment. Services provided are based on individual needs and are available to San Mateo County residents on a sliding fee scale. No one is turned away for lack of funds. Priority admission is given to pregnant and parenting women.

BHRS administers substance use prevention and treatment funds from federal, state and local sources and provide a wide range of services for the education, prevention and treatment of drug and alcohol disorders.

Opioid pain relievers are prescription pain medications that can be dangerous and highly addictive, even for people who have no history of substance use disorders.

[Cannabis] Decoded
Get the facts

 [Cannabis] Decoded is a San Mateo County initiative to educate youth and young adults about the facts on cannabis use.

Adults 21 or older can now legally use, carry and grow cannabis in the state of California. In a 2016 survey of San Mateo County residents, 20 percent of respondents reported currently using cannabis. One in ten non-users said they would try it if it were legalized while 87 percent expressed concern over youth using marijuana in their communities.
