The Public Authority of San Mateo County offers IHSS providers:
- As of June 1, 2024, IHSS providers are paid $20.80 per hour and $31.20 per hour for overtime (overtime limits apply).
- Voluntary health and dental/vision insurance (fixed number of enrollment spots available).
- Paid sick leave.
- Public transportation benefit (fixed number of reimbursements every month).
- Voluntary contribution retirement savings program for California IHSS Providers including live-in providers (CalSavers Retirement Savings Program).
- Educational workshops and reimbursement for pre-approved classes.

Do you offer health, dental and vision benefits? How can I become eligible and how do I sign up?
Yes, we offer health and dental/vision insurance to a fixed number of enrollment spots.
To maintain your benefits, you must submit timesheets showing that you work 35 hours per month AND your timesheets must be submitted immediately following the end of the pay period, the 15th of the month and the last day of the month.

Do I get paid vacation and sick time, or holidays off?
We do not offer paid vacation or holidays. IHSS providers currently working are eligible to receive Paid Sick Leave hours.
Use this Paid Sick Leave Form and submit to the address on the back of the form if you wish to utilize these hours.
Do you offer Public Transportation reimbursement?
Yes, there is $50.00 available for the first 125 eligible providers who apply each month.

Do Providers receive retirement benefits?
Yes, IHSS and WPCS Providers including live-in Providers can now enroll in an optional retirement savings program called CalSavers Retirement Savings Program. This program is overseen by the California State Treasurer and offers automatic payroll retirement contribution options.

Do you offer caregiving educational workshops for providers?
The Public Authority offers virtual (Zoom) workshops in English and Spanish on a variety of topics including infection control, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, caregiver stress, and many more.
Educational workshops or trainings offered by the Public Authority are not part of the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) Career Pathways Program for IHSS Providers. Our workshops are free. Participants will not be paid for their attendance.
