Since 2019 Charo Martinez has been our Office of Diversity & Equity (ODE) Peer Support Worker. She is a proud Latina, mother to two amazing boys & wife to a loving woman. Charo was born & raised in Mexico & is one of 10 children raised in a family that was active in social justice work & being in solidarity with underserved communities. Prior to ODE, Charo worked as a News Correspondent for a national syndicated morning show and as Public Affairs Director for Univision Radio. Charo brings her experience & passion to our work, where she guides individuals in completing the Health Ambassador Program (HAP), supports them in overcoming painful challenges, assists families in engaging with services & provides thousands of residents prevention & assistance programs information. Charo’s work is impactful in the magnitude of work she has done during her three year term, & in the strength of the relationships she has built with marginalized community members. Charo has shared that for her, working with Latino families on our Coast, more than doubling our HAP graduates & supporting families during the pandemic have been highlights. Charo’s passion is ever present in her thoughts about her works impact, sharing the message of wellness, hope, recovery & opportunity that is provided by our numerous programs. For her, “part of our mental wellness is being involved in and supporting initiatives important for residents of the County”.
