Recycle At The Curb

Motor oil is a serious environmental hazard if not properly collected and recycled. However, there’s an easy way to recycle used oil and filters right at home!

Depending on your hauler, you may have different curbside options available to you.

Curbside cart pickup is typically available for single-family homes and apartments with up to four units with individual cart service. Check with your hauler to confirm the details below.

GreenWaste:
Residents may set out used motor oil (in plastic containers with a screw on lid only) and filters (in sealed plastic bags only) next to their blue cart for collection at no additional charge. A free oil jug can be requested by calling Customer Service at (650) 568-9900 (Woodside), (650) 568-9900 (Portola Valley), or (650) 798-5999 (Atherton).

Kunz Valley Trash and Recycling:
Place used motor oil in original or other plastic jugs with screw-top lids and used filters inside secure zip-top plastic bags. Place both next to your recycling cart. Call (831) 338-9682 before your scheduled pickup if you have more than the usual amount for a single auto or pick-up truck.

Recology of the Coast:
No curbside pickup available. Drop-off is available at the Recology Pacifica Recycling Yard at 1046 Palmetto Ave. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. – noon for Pacifica residents (proof of residency required). Recology San Bruno:
No curbside pickup available. Drop-off is available at the Recology San Bruno Transfer Station located at 101 Tanforan Ave. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. – noon for San Bruno residents (proof of residency required). Recology San Mateo County:
Place motor oil and filters next to your blue recycle cart for pickup on your regular collection day.  You may request up to five one-gallon plastic jugs for your used motor oil and up to five zippered plastic bags for your used oil filters, at no cost. You may also use your own clear zip-top plastic bags and clear plastic containers for used motor oil, such as a one-gallon milk jug. Jugs must be labeled. Republic Services of Daly City:
Place up to two one-gallon, clear plastic jugs (with screw-top cap) of used motor oil and up to two one-gallon clear zip-type plastic bags with used oil filters curbside on your collection day. Jugs must be labeled. Place the motor oil and oil filters next to your blue recycle cart. For more information, contact Republic Services of Daly City at (650) 756-1130.

Republic Services of Half Moon Bay:
Place up to two, one-gallon, clear plastic jugs (with screw-top cap) of used motor oil and up to two, one-gallon clear zip-type plastic bags with used oil filters, curbside on your collection day. South San Francisco Scavenger:
Five gallon limit, must be contained in a sealed plastic bottle with a screw-top cap. Place alongside the recycling cart on your regular collection day.
