Instructions
If you need an x-ray, your doctor will send you to our radiology department. Make sure you are ready for your exam by following the instructions.
For safety reasons, small children can not go in the room with you when you have an x-ray taken. Please do not bring your children with you to your exam.

Barium Enema (Adult)
Follow the 18-hour prep from the Fleet Prep Kit you were given.
Barium Enema (Children 1-3 years old)
The day before the exam: a clear liquid dinner and 7.5 milliliters of Castor Oil at bedtime.
The day of the exam: Nothing to eat or drink four (4) hours before bedtime and ½ Bisacodyl suppository three (3) hours before exam.
CT Scan
Nothing to eat three (3) hours prior to your exam. Clear liquids only.
IVP (Kidneys)
Follow the 18-hour prep from the Fleet Prep Kit you were given.
Mammogram
Do not wear powder, deodorant or perfume on the day of exam. Avoid caffeine products one week prior to your exam.
Ultrasound – Abdomen, Gallbladder, or Abdominal Aorta
Nothing to eat or drink after 10 pm the day before the exam except for sips of water with your usual medication.
Ultrasound – Kidney (Renal)
Drink one 8oz. glass of water 30 minutes prior to exam. Do not empty bladder until after your exam.
Ultrasound – Pelvic or Obstetrical
Drink three 8oz. glasses of water two hours prior to exam. Do not empty your bladder. You can eat.
Upper Gastrointestinal Series (or Small Bowel)
Nothing to eat or drink after midnight the day before the exam.
U/S Guided Core Breast Biopsy
No aspirin or ibuprofen one (1) week prior to your exam. No deodorant, powder, or perfume on the day of your exam.
U/S Guided Thyroid Biopsy
No aspirin or ibuprofen one (1) week prior to your exam. No deodorant, powder, or perfume on the day of your exam. Please bring with you to your exam all the medicines you are currently taking.
