Lost & Found Pets

Have you lost or found a pet?

Each year, Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA reunites thousands of stray pets with their human companions.

If you have lost an animal, please go to the Animal Control shelter located at 12 Airport Blvd. in San Mateo or call 650.340.7022 x338 for help.

Keep in mind that the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA cannot confirm your pet's identity over the phone. It is their policy to hold an animal that arrives with identification for 7 days before they will evaluate it for adoption. Animals with no identification are held for the state-mandated 4 day period (excluding the day they arrive) before they consider if the animal is adoptable.

You can pick up the helpful brochure "When You've Lost Your Companion Animal" and the free Lost Animal templates at the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA. To increase the chance that your animal will be returned, you can fill out the template and post it in areas of your neighborhood allowed under County/city ordinances.

Microchipping

Having your pet microchipped is a great, inexpensive way to ensure that he or she has permanent identification. Microchipping is included with the cost of every adoption, and is also available to the general public on a drop-in basis at the Animal Control shelter located at 12 Airport Blvd. in San Mateo. A chip the size of a grain of rice containing a serial number is injected just under the skin between the animal's shoulder blades. The process in simple, and painless - much like a needle prick that humans feel. The Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA can scan all animals for a microchip and if an animal has been chipped, they will have information about its human caregiver. The cost is $30, or $12 for those living in the unincorporated areas of the County, Belmont, San Mateo and East Palo Alto.
