Introduction to the BHRS Avatar Electronic Medical Record

This training is required for all Behavioral Health & Recovery Services Mental Health Avatar users.

Learning Objectives:This training will introduce you to the BHRS Avatar electronic medical record and will help you:

  1. Understand how to log on to Avatar.
  2. Learn how to look up a client, and run the following Avatar forms and reports: the Face Sheet, the Medication Report, Progress Note Reports, Consents, and the Urgent Care Plan & Client Alerts.
  3. Understand the To-do List and Documentation at a Glance.
  4. Learn how to get help when needed.

Documentation Training Series: Avatar Progress Notes for BHRS

This is a required training for all BHRS staff or contractors that write progress notes in Avatar. 2 CEUs/CMEs granted upon completion.

Learning Objectives: This training will introduce you to BHRS Progress Notes and will help you:

  1. Understand progress note terminology.
  2. Learn how to correctly code and document services.
  3. Learn how to complete Avatar progress notes: Including the standard progress note, group progress note, MAR, Day Treatment notes, appending and error corrections.

Documentation Training Series: Avatar Client Treatment & Recovery Plan for BHRS

  1. Demonstrate proficiency in developing a client treatment and recovery plan with their clients.

When you launch this training, Allow Pop-Ups*** This is very important turn off the Pop-Up Blocker

This is a mandated training for all BHRS staff and fulfills the county HIPAA training requirement. 2 CEUs/CMEs granted upon completion. San Mateo County staff should take this by going to the LMS website if possible. This training meets the requirement for 2 Law & Ethics CEUs.

Learning Objectives: 

  1. Exercise a good understanding of the confidentiality and HIPAA laws that apply to Mental Health & AOD Services
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of how to protect clients' confidentiality and privacy rights provided under law
  3. Acquire the skills to prevent breaches of confidentiality with appropriate security measures and how to report a breach when it occurs

Presented by BHRS Quality Management. This is required for all BHRS staff working with clients. 1 CEU/CME granted upon completion. This training meets the requirement for 1 Law & Ethics CEU. San Mateo County staff should take this by going to the LMS website if possible.

  1. Successfully Manage & Report Critical Incident
  2. Complete Mandated Reports as Required by California Law

5150 Certification Training for San Mateo County

The purpose of this training is to provide a basic orientation to the current laws governing involuntary detention. If you are qualified you will be mailed your CEU certificate and your 5150 certification card. This training meets the requirement for 1 Law & Ethics CEU.

 Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand clients’ rights
  2. Learn 5150 criteria
  3. Learn how to complete the application for 72-hour Detention (5150)

Basic Documentation Training  For Non-Avatar Users

Basic Documentation Training Presented by BHRS Quality Management. Participants will learn to document services in order to provide a meaningful clinical record, learn documentation standards for Short Doyle/ MediCal Outpatient Services, and learn codes that are used for each specific service provided. If you are qualified you will be mailed your CEU certificate.
