Aging and Adult Services
Aging and Adult Services (AAS) helps San Mateo County's older adults and people with disabilities live as safely and independently as possible. Services include centralized intake and referral, assessment and consultation, protective and supportive services, public guardian/conservatorship, and case management. The division serves as the Area Agency on Aging for planning, coordination, program funding, and advocacy for older adults and people with disabilities in the County. The division is advised by the Commission on Aging, the Commission on Disabilities, and the In-Home Supportive Services Advisory Committee. AAS’ goal is to deliver compassionate and financially responsible services that meet high professional standards by providing protection, support, prevention and advocacy for older adults and people with disabilities.

Behavioral Health and Recovery Services
Behavioral Health and Recovery Services assists children, youth, families, adults and older adults with the prevention, early intervention and treatment of complex mental illness and/or substance abuse conditions.
We are committed to support treatment of the whole person to achieve wellness and recovery, and to promote the health of individuals, families and communities we serve. Culturally competent services are provided by mental health clinicians, alcohol and drug counselors, peers, and others, through a network of County and private agency providers and partners throughout the community.

Correctional Health Services
Correctional Health Services provides integrated medical, dental, mental health, and chemical dependency treatment to San Mateo County’s incarcerated adults and medical and dental care to the juvenile hall population. The Correctional Food Services program provides meals that are heart healthy and compliant with state guidelines to adults and juveniles while they are in custody.

Emergency Medical Services
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) partners with local organizations and emergency response agencies to ensure everyone involved in an emergency response is specially trained and properly equipped when disaster strikes in San Mateo County. EMS is the agency that regulates public and private emergency medical services and provides trainings and disaster planning as well as response services.

Environmental Health
Environmental Health provides services to ensure a safe and healthy environment in San Mateo County through education, monitoring, and enforcement of regulatory programs and services for the community.
Services include restaurant and housing inspection, household hazardous waste and medical waste disposal, water protection and water quality monitoring, pollution prevention, and other regulatory activities and services.

Family Health Services
Family Health Services focus on the health and well-being of infants, children, teens, young adults and parents. Services include well-child check-ups, developmental screenings, support for children with special health needs, parenting classes, home visits, vaccine clinics, lead/asthma assessments, health education, tobaco cessation and prevention. We work in concert with our community and County partners to support and promote healthy lifestyles to prevent health problems before they occur.

Health Policy and Planning
Health Policy and Planning works to build health equity and improve the health and well-being for all people who live and work in San Mateo County. We partner with community-based organizations to carry out projects and initiatives aimed at long-term prevention and making a systemic impact on people’s health .
Health Policy & Planning includes the County Health Officer who addresses the broad concerns surrounding social, economic, and environmental conditions to improve community health and prevent illness, disease and injury; Epidemiology, which provides precise scientific information and data to the public, health care professionals, and policy makers; Policy and Planning, which leads strategic planning, and analyzes data and policy opportunities to guide priorities and engage the community; and the Children's Health Initiative, which works to ensure that all children in San Mateo County have access to comprehensive health insurance coverage.
